public comment?

UnidentifiedUnidentified speaker 1Proposed2:06

Chair Nelson and members of the Board, we do have one request to speak from the public and general public comment. We are going to remain here in Santa Barbara with Cheryl Kelmer. Cheryl?

UnidentifiedUnidentified speaker 3Proposed2:16

Hi. Yes, I'm here to speak today, and I'd like to leave this document on a problem that's with the tax assessor. It's regarding a document that was filed and recorded on November 20th, 2020. It states it's regarding an apartment complex in Isla Vista. This document states that Eric Johnson is the trustee of that property apartment complex. Eric Johnson is my son's father.

But the problem with this document that was filed on November 20th Eric Johnson died of cancer on November 2, 2020. Why did the new alleged trustee file a document after Eric Johnson died? And why have they been not been hold to the legal standard of having to file on the record that they are a trustee and to file a parent-child exemption and put the trust on the record showing that my son is a beneficiary of that apartment complex and not some lawyer I want to know why this government has not done anything to hold this law firm accountable for complying with the law. There is no reason they should have recorded a document claiming that a dead man can be a trustee. So please, I'm calling for you guys to make sure that the law is enforced regarding this apartment complex.

And I'd like to leave these documents with you.

UnidentifiedMayorProposed · by role4:15

Thank you, Ms. Kelmar. Supervisor Capps, that's her district. I know she'll look into it as well. We'll both follow up.

UnidentifiedUnidentified speaker 3Proposed4:23

I've contacted her. She has done nothing. I've contacted the tax assessor. They've done nothing. And recently, I contacted the district attorney.

UnidentifiedMayorProposed · by role4:33

Thank you, Ms. Kelmar. We will follow up, though.

UnidentifiedUnidentified speaker 3Proposed4:35

Thank you.

Well, I'll speak with you, but I know we've put you in touch with the tax assessor, so we'll continue to pursue that. But I know Mr. Hagan is in touch with you directly. Sure. Yeah, I understand. Absolutely.

UnidentifiedUnidentified speaker 1Proposed4:51

And that concludes general public comment for today.

0:04 – 0:069 turns

UnidentifiedMayorProposed · by role4:55

Thank you. With the conclusion of general public comment, we will now recess to closed session. Madam Clerk, or sorry, actually, let's see if there's any, do I need to read in closed session first and then ask for public comment on closed session? All right. So if you could talk to, or could you let the public know what we'll be discussing today in closed session?

UnidentifiedUnidentified speaker 4Proposed5:16

Mr. Chair, members of the board, in closed session today, the board is scheduled to consider public employee appointment for the county executive officer.

UnidentifiedMayorProposed · by role5:24

today.

UnidentifiedMayorProposed · by role5:33

Thank you. Then we'll close any public comment on that and we will go ahead and recess to closed session. We'll be back at the end of the day to adjourn this meeting. We expect to be back in the mid to late afternoon. So thank you. All right, welcome back to the April 23rd special meeting of Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors. We're back in Santa Barbara after a lengthy closed session.

Madam County Council, do you have anything to report back out from closed session today?

UnidentifiedUnidentified speaker 4Proposed6:17

Thank you, Mr. Chair and members of the board. The board met in closed session on one item, public employee appointment for county executive officer, and the board took no reportable action.

UnidentifiedMayorProposed · by role6:25
